celebs gone good, dosomething.orgA simple Google search would reveal the top celebrity stories of 2014, from scandals to breakups, a lot has happened in 2014! But these aren’t the stories we are focused on at TwitChange.

For seven years, DoSomething.org has released an annual list celebrating celebrities who are using their platforms for social good. These are the stories we love to hear, promote and celebrate.

So who made the list?

For the third year in a row, Taylor Swift has topped the Celebs Gone Good list. This year, 25-year-old Swift donated all of the proceeds from her single “Welcome to New York” off her chart-topping album, 1989, to the New York City Public Schools. It’s that kind of generosity that landed Swift atop the list again this year. (Although we have another favorite Taylor Swift story from this year. Check it out here.)

Other celebs who made the Top 20 include:

  • Feminist icon, Laverne Cox
  • Beyonce and her #BeyGOOD campaigns, which have helped put people back to work, kept clothing donation centers stocked, and cared for the homeless by providing counseling, housing, food, and medical assistance.
  • Miley Cyrus, who shocked the world at the VMAs by using her acceptance speech for Video of the Year to raise awareness about youth homelessness. She also raised money for My Friend’s Place through a Prizeo campaign.
  • Emma Watson and her #HeForShe campaign and speech at the UN that brought feminism to the forefront.
  • One Direction, who used their celebrity platform to raise more than $341,000 for Stand Up to Cancer.
  • John Cena, who has granted more than 400 wishes to sick children over the years for the Make-A-Wish foundation.
