Prince Harry is officially on Twitter, and his first tweet, sent in front of sponsors and journalists in London, was to promote the inaugural Invictus Games, coming up this September.
“Hope everyone will get behind #invictusgames. Great opportunity to support and thank the men and women who have given so much. Harry,” read the tweet sent from the official @InvictusLondon account.
The Invictus Games were inspired by Prince Harry’s visit to see the Warrior Games last year in Colorado. The games are a Paralympic-style sporting event for wounded service personnel from 14 nations, including the United States, and will honor these men and women for the sacrifices they made serving their country.
“The word ‘Invictus’ means ‘unconquered’. It embodies the fighting spirit of the wounded, injured and sick service personnel and what these tenacious men and women can achieve, post injury. The Invictus Games will celebrate this through sporting achievement that recognises the journey to recovery these men and women are on.” (invictusgames.com)
“Ultimately, this is about the men and women who have given so much and deserve our support, in their recovery, rehabilitation and on leaving the armed forces,” says Prince Harry. “I know people will want to join me in cheering them on from the sidelines.”
The games will be held at venues from the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, and 40,000 tickets for the games are now on sale.
