Ameila Flores, a 17-year-old from Wichita, Kansas, set a goal to collect 2,000 pairs of donated shoes for Soles4Souls. The global organization helped her extended family after Hurricane Katrina, and Flores wanted to pay it forward. Little did she know, she’d get a little help from Kim Kardashian and hubby Kanye West.

Unbeknownst to her, Flores’ story was featured on Dish Nation, a FOX syndicated TV show.

Kardashian West just happened to be watching the show while breastfeeding her newborn son, Saint.  After seeing the segment about Amelia’s shoe drive, Kim posted six tweets asking the Twitterverse for help.

Kim’s offer to help suddenly had everyone talking about this 17-year-old Kansas girl who’s simple act of kindness turned into something BIG.

“My phone is blowing up,” Flores told her local paper, The Wichita Eagle. “My heart has been racing since I woke up this morning. Kim Kardashian is helping me personally – this is insane.”

In the hours that followed, Flores fielded interview requests from Good Morning America, BBC, Access Hollywood, The Huffington Post, and The New York Daily News (to name a few).

The Kardashian-level attention shocked Brian Granfors, creative director for Soles4Souls,  he told The Eagle.

“It was kind of like Christmas morning here at Soles4Souls,” he said.
